A Culture of Empowerment

When people feel empowered, they are motivated, creative, and very productive. When you have a team of empowered people, you can move mountains.

To create a culture of empowerment, it is important for people to feel appreciated, have direction, and a sense of purpose. It’s also important for people to be able to flow with whatever happens. It’s the inability to flow with what happens that creates most of the problems in a business or organization.

Individuals who can flow with life have an inner peace and are very effective. They seldom get upset and they stay focused on finding solutions. They empower others and tend to be more responsible.


When people can’t flow with what happens, they:

  • Focus on resisting instead of solutions

  • Create conflict and alienate others

  • Feel like a victim and lose their power

  • Get upset and lose their ability to see clearly

  • Tend to blame instead of taking responsibility


Fortunately, much of this can be avoided. There are certain truths that once known, can dramatically increase a person’s ability to accept responsibility and to flow with life. This increase was documented in one of our programs.

Stop The Conflict is a one-evening program we do for family law courts. It's purpose is to take the conflict out of divorce. Divorcing parents are required to attend. For a period of six months, we measured our results and were surprised at what we discovered.

You can end conflict and restore cooperation

Nothing destroys a culture of empowerment faster than conflict. When people or departments fight each other, cooperation and productivity drop sharply. This negativity then tends to spread.

Whenever there is conflict, there is an underlying cycle of fighting, resisting and withdrawing from each other. This cycle of conflict then goes on and on without either party noticing his or her role in the problem.

Fortunately, it is relatively easy to end a cycle of conflict and even easier to make sure one doesn’t get created. This is because a cycle of conflict requires the participation of two people. It’s like a tennis volley. Two people (or departments) are required to keep it going. Only one is needed to end it.

In our programs, participants discover the nature of conflict. Then they learn how to end it and how to avoid it.

Participants become more able to:

  • End conflict and restore cooperation
  • Disolve resistance and opposition
  • Resolve disputes quickly
  • Prevent future conflict from arising




You can have problem areas clear up

Whenever an area of life isn’t working, notice the direction of focus. Instead of looking to see what needs to be done based on the way the situation is, the focus is on fighting the situation.

This destroys your ability to find solutions. It creates a state of fear, upset and tunnel vision. It creates conflict and forces you to act in a way that literally makes your situation worse.

If you could flow with your situation, you would have peace of mind. You would see you situation clearly and could see what needs to be done. Solutions and opportunity would then show up. Problem areas would get resolved and you would be far more effective.

  • Focus on solutions instead of resisting
  • Adapt to change and flow with whatever happens
  • Recover quickly from setbacks
  • Think clearly in difficult situations




You can stay effective in difficult situations

At any moment, you are totally at the effect of the world around you. At the same time, the world around you is totally at the effect of you. This makes you "the cause." You are both “the cause” of your circumstances and “at the effect.” You are both, but you only experience yourself as being one or the other.

When you experience yourself as “being at the effect," you have no power. You are a victim of your circumstances. Life is on top of you. You feel stuck. Confidence, energy, creativity, and productivity quickly disappear.

When you experience yourself as being "at cause," you have power. You are on top of your situation. You see your situation clearly and can see what needs to be done. You find solutions and are very effective. To the extent that you live your life "at cause," you can make things happen.

In our programs, participants discover the difference between cause and effect. They see how they give their power away and learn how to live "at cause." The result is a much more productive and happier individual.

Participants become more able to:

  • Shift from effect to cause
  • Accept responsibility for what happens
  • Be responsible for producing results
  • Let go of blaming

When teamwork is present, people feel empowered. They have a sense of belonging and feel that they make a difference. They become highly motivated and very interested in the success of the team.
